New comments have emerged suggesting Conservative Party donor Frank Hester joked about an “Indian” standing on the roof of a train at a staff meeting.
It comes after Downing Street was forced to censure businessman Mr Hester for allegedly making comments about MP Diane Abbott. guardian It announced further charges against the businessman.
In new revelations, Mr Hester is accused of making comments about “Indians” and “joking about racism” during a meeting with staff in Leeds.
He reportedly made the remarks during a meeting at technology company Phoenix Partnership (TPP). Mr. Hester runs the company and has won several government contracts.
Speaking to staff on a balcony overlooking the railroad tracks, he asked, “So there’s no room for Indians?” And he added, “Why don’t you climb on the roof? Like that train roof?”
“I’ve told a lot of jokes about racism,” he said afterward, according to a report in the Guardian, adding: “I’m looking forward to traveling to Malaysia so I can tell new jokes. I’ve made a lot of jokes about Malaysians. I don’t know, but I’m sure I’ll find it.”
The paper said the meeting was to address allegations of racism made by former employees in 2019.
The suspect is said to have said the following: “I think that in loving company, we should be able to lovingly joke about each other, tease each other, and enjoy each other’s company. You probably know the difference between it and the “corner of Asia” that still takes place here today. ”
The latest allegations come after Downing Street was forced to condemn Mr Hester’s comments about Mr Abbott as “racist and wrong”.
Mr. Hester is said to have said that the longest-serving black lawmaker had become “made to hate all black women” and that she “should be shot.”
Rishi Sunak has come under pressure over his comments after refusing to say they were racist.
In a new statement released on Tuesday night, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson said: “The comments Frank Hester allegedly made were racist and wrong. He has now duly apologized for the offense he caused and any remorse shown will be It should be accepted.
