Logitech is expanding its Mevo lineup of live streaming cameras for creators. The company’s new Mevo Core can shoot in 4K, so unlike the 1080p Mevo Start we reviewed two years ago, the video won’t become overly grainy with cropping or digital zoom. However, the trade-off is the price, as in the new model it costs three times as much with a three-camera setup.
Mevo Core continues our line of wireless multicam live streaming to platforms like YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook. (Of course, you can also record content for later upload.) The $999 package will ship as just the body, but Logitech says it will sell lens bundle kits through Amazon and B&H Photo Video. Either way, you’ll need at least one Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lens to get started, but the company says any of his MFT lenses, motorized or manual, will work from day one.
The camera has a larger 4/3 CMOS sensor, which Logitech says reduces noise and improves low-light performance and depth of field compared to 1080p models. Core shoots in 4K at 30fps to record content for later upload. If you’re live streaming, you can use 1080p, 30fps instead. This model supports WiFi 6E. If your router also supports WiFi 6E, it may help with network latency and stability.
The camera body is noticeably larger than the Mevo Start. At 3.5 x 3.5 x 3.25 inches, it has a similar depth and height, but is about twice as wide. Weight with battery installed (without lens) is 1.5 lbs.
Logitech says the audio has also been upgraded. Built-in 3 microphone array with noise canceling function. You can also connect an external microphone (or other audio source). I found this to be essential for Mevo Start. We’ll have to see if the Core’s built-in microphone performs much better.
Mevo Core has an estimated battery life of 6 hours. If you need more time, you can connect an external power source to the USB-C port. It also includes an HDMI port, a 3.5mm port (for analog audio), and a microSD card slot. Logitech says it can also be used as a (incredibly expensive) wired or wireless HD webcam.
Like previous models, the Mevo Core works with Logitech’s Mevo app (which lets you adjust focus, zoom, aperture, and more) and the Multicam app to set up multi-viewpoint recording or streaming.
The Logitech Mevo Core is available starting today for $999 for a single (body only) camera. Available from Logitech, Amazon, and B&H Photo Video.
