Spotify has added a long-requested mini-player to its desktop app. This gives you instant access to playback while allowing you to focus on other things. A resizable floating window lets you control your audio, including changing tracks, selecting playlists, and adjusting volume. The company says this feature has already started rolling out to premium subscribers.
Once available in the app, you can launch the Spotify Desktop Mini Player (its official name) by clicking the square in the bottom right corner of the app, to the right of the standard playback controls. Click on it and a floating window will appear next to the entire application.
The resizable mini player works in a square aspect ratio, which is perfect for videos. The thin bar minimizes clutter and displays play/pause and skip track controls next to current track information and album art.
This feature allows third-party apps ( alfred spotify mini player, Lofi Spotify Mini Player and spot menu) to fill what some users saw as a major oversight on the streaming service. (Spotify community post requesting In 2019, there were over 3,000 upvotes. ) Apple Music has had equivalent MiniPlayer for macOS and Windows for years. If you’re a premium member, look for the little square toggle that will appear in the bottom right corner of the desktop app right away.
