The Justice Department and more than a dozen states have filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing Apple of violating antitrust laws. Apple’s hardware and software products are largely inaccessible to competitors, making it difficult for them to compete and for customers to switch to other companies’ products, the company said.
The case alleges that the European Commission charged Apple with €1.8 billion ($1.8 billion) for preventing music streaming developers from “notifying iOS users about alternative, cheaper music subscription services available” outside of the App Store. This happened after the company was fined $1.95 billion. And all the while, U.S. lawmakers are hotly pursuing another tech company: TikTok.
The Justice Department has suggested that Apple used its controls over iOS to block innovative apps and cloud streaming services from public availability. (Look at cloud gaming services like Google’s defunct Stadia and Microsoft’s xCloud). The complaint also suggests that Apple interfered with competing payment platforms, made it difficult for Android messages to appear on iPhones, and limited how competing smartphones integrated with iOS devices.
you did it Compare Apple’s antitrust case to Microsoft’s antitrust case filed against Windows in the late 90s. Even Attorney General Merrick Garland has taken note of the litigation in this case. However, Microsoft Really Back then, PC software was king, with over 90% of all PCs running some type of Windows.
According to the Department of Justice, Apple claims to own 70% of all smartphones, which is already low. Getting a little academic here, but outside of the US, Apple has the same market share as Samsung, with many other phone manufacturers vying for a point or two. It just doesn’t have the same grip that Microsoft had on PCs.

Two devices that were conspicuously absent from Microsoft’s Surface and AI event last fall are finally here. And they were what we expected and a little surprising. Today, Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6, which feature the same design as previous models but with the AI smarts of Intel’s new Core Ultra CPUs. Sadly, both have the foreboding words “for business” in their names and can only be purchased from Microsoft’s website or commercial resellers. but why? I don’t really know.

DoorDash announced the launch of a new drone delivery pilot program in Christiansburg, Virginia, a city of about 22,000 people. The company says the order should arrive within 30 minutes, and that the speed of the drone flying through the sky is about the same as a standard pizza delivery. However, this is limited to “target products”. And, unfortunately, only products from the fast food chain Wendy’s.
Wendy’s? Wendy’s.

Nearly 20 years after its debut, Reddit is now a publicly traded company. The company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange as RDDT on Thursday, and its mascot, Snoo, rang the opening bell. One of the interesting things about Reddit’s listing is that it has offered shares at its IPO price to its blue-chip long-term users over the past few weeks. However, it’s not all good news for Reddit. The company recently signed a deal with Google worth $60 million annually to train Google’s AI models on user-generated content. The Federal Trade Commission is investigating the arrangement.
