Allen Weisselberg, President Donald Trump’s longtime loyal chief financial officer, began serving a five-month sentence Wednesday for perjury.
Mr. Weisselberg, 76, surrendered in Manhattan Criminal Court after receiving a short sentence for admitting lies in pretrial depositions and on the witness stand in a civil fraud trial last year.
Asked by Judge Laurie Peterson if he had anything to say before sentencing, Weisselberg, who was standing in the defense box, replied, “No, sir.”
The judge ordered Weisselberg to serve the five months he previously agreed to when he pleaded guilty last month to two felony counts of first-degree perjury.
She then told court officers to “be responsible” and one of them removed the handcuffs as Weisselberg held her arms behind her back. He didn’t even look over his shoulder as he was chased out the back door of the courtroom.
President Trump’s former top finance chief admitted earlier this month that he lied to state Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron and lawyers in the state attorney general’s office.
Both lies led to what the AG characterized as the biggest fraudulent exaggeration in the case: repeatedly claiming to bankers that his penthouse triplex in Trump Tower was 30,000 square feet. had downplayed his involvement with Trump.
