The system can be retrofitted to most existing deadbolts, making key-free operation easy. There is no need to replace your existing hardware with the Yale Approach Lock with Wi-Fi. It’s an indoor-only smart lock that Ale says takes just 10 minutes to install, and all you need is a screwdriver. It also sits just 1.6 inches away from the door, giving it a fairly slim profile.
Once you install a smart lock, you will be able to use features such as automatic locking and automatic unlocking. If you’re away from home and want to invite a friend over to water your plants or check on your pet, you can unlock your door remotely using the Yale Access app. Additionally, Yale’s approach is renter-friendly. It attaches to the back of most standard deadbolts, allowing you (and your homeowner) to continue using the same key. Additionally, Yale Approach works with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Philips Hue, and Samsung SmartThings. Will be added later.
The new Yale Keypad is also compatible with Yale Approach, several of the company’s other products, and many smart locks. The one-touch lock function allows you to lock and unlock the door using your PIN code. You can provide unique access codes to your guests. The backlit keypad is also IPX5 rated weatherproof and can be placed anywhere within the lock’s Bluetooth range. Later this year, Yale plans to release a version that lets you unlock doors with your fingerprint.
Both products are currently available in the United States on the Yale and August College websites. The Yale Approach is available in black suede or silver and costs $130, while the Yale Keypad costs $70. The bundle is available for $180. These devices will be arriving on Amazon and other retailers soon. It will also be available for purchase in Canada through Amazon.
