Bumble created the Opening Moves feature this month after conducting a global survey of more than 6,000 women between the ages of 23 and 35 who use the app. Almost half of female respondents want more ways to start conversations.
During early testing, Bumble highlighted that the opening move increases the number of chats initiated, the number of people replying to chats, and the overall time spent in conversations.
For non-binary or same-sex connections, both parties can set the opening move and respond to it.
This feature takes the pressure off users to come up with a new initial message for each match, making them more likely to contact a match in the first place.
When the other person responds to the prompt, the conversation begins.
