As issues continue to plague the airline industry, choosing a domestic airline is more difficult than ever.
and wallet hub‘s recent ranking of the top U.S. airlines in 2024 reflects these struggles. The magazine ranked nine major U.S. airlines and regional carrier SkyWest Airlines, with only one taking the top spot.
“Airline ticket prices fell quite significantly last year, but are starting to rise again this year. However, cost is not the only factor that matters when choosing an airline,” the report said. “Comfort and safety are also important, and especially with recent news about plane breakdowns, finding the most affordable airfares is now easy for anyone with an internet connection. That’s why this report is exploring other often overlooked aspects of air travel to help consumers earn more – informed decisions. ”

In first place was Alaska Airlines, with a score of 68.07 out of 100, taking the crown from Delta Air Lines, which won the title in both 2022 and 2023.
However, thanks to better onboard amenities like free Wi-Fi and legroom, Delta tied with JetBlue Airways as the most comfortable airline.
To create the report, the outlet considered 13 different qualifying factors in three main categories: baggage and departures, onboard comfort and cost, and safety. Airlines were rated on a 100-point scale and earned a certain number of points based on categories measured, such as canceled flights, reports of baggage mishandling, legroom and Wi-Fi usage.

Regional airline SkyWest Airlines ranked second overall with a score of 65.96 out of 100, followed by Spirit Airlines in third place with a score of 65.69 out of 100.
