Sony Interactive Entertainment (SEI) announced The new leadership structure will have two people responsible for different parts of the business. Hideaki Nishino, currently SVP of Platform Experience Group, will become CEO of SIE’s Platform Business Group on June 1. On the same day, Mr. Harmen Hulst will be appointed CEO of the SIE Studio Business Group. He serves as SVP and Head of PlayStation Studios.
The two executives will step into their respective roles after Jim Ryan decided to step down as CEO of SEI in March. In announcing his departure, he said he was finding it “increasingly difficult” to balance family life in the UK with work in the US. Ryan helped establish the company’s presence in Europe and oversaw the launch of PlayStation 5 during the pandemic. Mr. Nishino and Mr. Hulst will both report directly to interim CEO Hiroki Totoki, who will step back and continue his role as Chairman of SIE, President, COO, and CFO of Sony Group Corporation.
Nishino currently leads the team that develops all experiences and technology for PlayStation’s services and products. He will continue to lead those roles, but will also oversee the company’s efforts with third-party publishers and developers. Mr. Nishino will be responsible for SIE’s commercial operations, including sales and marketing of all PlayStation hardware, services and peripherals. Meanwhile, Hulst has led content development efforts across PlayStation consoles and his PC. He is also responsible for developing video game adaptations for film and television. the last of us.
