What is it like to be a franchisee? Bart Bess is a good person to ask. Because although he is out, he is also on his way home.
Beth previously owned over 100 retail stores for mobile phone brands. He then opened four clinics at QC Kinetix, a franchise that provides regenerative medicine for pain management. Now he is changing his position in the franchise world. At the end of 2023, he put the clinic up for sale in order to become Chief Operating Officer of QC Kinetix.
We wanted to know what advice Beth has for new franchisees as they transition to the franchisor side. This is what he said.
Research business → Research lifestyle
“When researching franchises, reach out to a number of owners to see what their lifestyle is like. Is that the lifestyle you want? Because some… Because business can be much more hands-on than you think. Other businesses may be more hands-on than you’d like as a business owner. ”
Buy a Franchise → Buy a Franchise Vision
“People buy into franchising and then start blaming the franchisor for all the problems. It’s easy. They forget to look within their own business to see what some of the problems are. So really believe in the brand. Believe in it. You build a successful brand based on their craft and goals, so do it to the best of your ability. ”

Choose a place with a lot of people → Consider moving potential customers
“Sometimes when I look at a map, I think, ‘These people are probably going to the center.’ But maybe there’s a highway that they don’t usually take, and they’re actually going further in a different direction.” When considering real estate, you need someone who knows how locals get around.”
Build a culture after hiring → Build a culture while hiring
“People can go anywhere with a paycheck. They choose a career because they love what they do and they love the people they work around. From day one, like me… It was important for me to hire people who cared about the culture.”I started creating the culture during interviews to make sure I was hiring the right candidates. ”

Expand to new cities → Expand to customers
“When we advertise, we advertise the whole area. When people call, we take their postcode and find out where they live. That’s where my clinic goes next. Some real estate agents told me cities that looked good, but when I compared the places where people were calling me and the places where the marketing was working, I was… We weren’t capturing the people there according to the data.”
