Outlander fans can now visit the ancient Scottish mansion where parts of the series were filmed — and it doesn’t cost a cent to get in.
Callendar House in Falkirk, Scotland was used as a filming location for season 2 of the historical drama series.
But the cultural and historical importance of this building goes beyond TV shows: Callender House dates back to the 14th century and was once the home of the Livingston family, one of Scotland’s most powerful noble families.
Alexander, 5th Lord Livingstone, was appointed guardian to Mary, Queen of Scots after her birth in 1542. The royal family visited Callendar House many times and was close friends with Alexander’s daughter, who was also named Mary.
Today, Callender House is a free tourist attraction and private event venue. I took a tour and was amazed by the beauty of the building.
