“This is complete bullshit,” Donald Trump Jr. wrote on X, before posting further to criticize the ruling and baselessly portray the trial as an attempt to interfere in the 2024 election.
Trump’s second son, Eric Trump, the only family member in attendance in court, also wrote to X that the date of the verdict may be remembered as the day his father won the election.
The rest of Trump’s inner circle remained silent on social media, but several were in attendance nearby at Manhattan Criminal Court.
Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Eric’s wife, Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee, issued a statement to reporters near the courthouse condemning the verdict.
“This is not a case to prosecute an actual crime,” Lara Trump told reporters. “This is purely a political case.”
As of Friday evening, President Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, his daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, had not made any public statements about the trial’s outcome.
Trump Jr.’s fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, has publicly supported the former president, writing: About X “The only decision that matters will be made at the ballot box on November 5th.”
Only one member of Trump’s family praised the conviction: his niece, Mary L. Trump.
“This motherfucker finally got what he deserved,” she said in a YouTube livestream, “albeit in a very limited way.”
