The keynote for Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is just around the corner. The event will begin at 1pm ET on Monday, June 10. The keynote is open to the public and can be viewed at the link below. Apple event website or The company’s YouTube channelOr you can stay here and watch the embedded video.
This being WWDC, it’ll be a software-focused event, and Apple will likely announce many of the major features for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. There may also be updates to watchOS, macOS, and even visionOS, the operating system behind the Vision Pro headset.
But this is Apple, and rumors are flying fast and furious. While the world is obsessed with AI, with varying degrees of success, Apple has remained largely silent on the technology. Given the current tech environment, that seems likely to change sooner rather than later. WWDC would be the perfect place for the company to announce what it’s working on.
So Apple is reportedly developing its own AI chatbot, possibly an updated version of Siri. Rumors are circulating that the technology isn’t ready yet, so for now Siri will likely remain just an alarm clock. However, the company has partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into iOS 18. according to Bloomberg Mark GarmanIf Gurman is right (as he always is), there will be an announcement on that front, and there will likely be a mention of an upgraded Siri, though it won’t be available on devices until at least early 2025.
As for software updates, it looks like iOS 18 will finally bring RCS support to Messages. This messaging protocol offers end-to-end encryption and improved media sharing. It will also improve text message compatibility with Android devices. Rumor has it that Apple Music may get an OpenAI-powered tool to auto-generate playlists, and Notes may get a voice recording option. Other apps like Mail, Fitness, and Health are also expected to get new features, but there are no details at the time of writing.
And, as always, there’s the tantalizing “Just one more thing to go.” Last year, the company officially announced the Vision Pro at WWDC. Apple isn’t introducing any new device categories this year, and the AVP is its first since the Apple Watch, but we should see a global launch announcement for the Vision Pro and some feature updates.
Despite the Vision Pro announcement last year, don’t expect much hardware news. We might see a new Apple TV streaming box or, with any luck, a refresh of the AirPods Max with USB-C. Apple recently released both the iPad and MacBook, so don’t expect any new tablets or laptops. However, Apple may drop the just-released M4 chip from the MacBook Pro. The Mac mini and Mac Studio are both also overdue updates. However, we might not see any of the above announced. There won’t be a new iPhone until September, and the same goes for the Apple Watch.
