ChatGPT suffered a major outage early Tuesday morning, preventing many users from using the tool.
Users complained to X about the lack of availability of the tool, joking that they had to use “their brains” to do anything productive during the day.

The bug was first discovered at around 12:21 a.m. PDT, according to OpenAI’s service status website.

The issue was marked as “resolved” at about 4:45 a.m. PDT, but as of 7:33 a.m. the company service It was not yet available to some users and was under investigation by OpenAI.
At approximately 11:15 a.m. ET, entrepreneur I tried to use ChatGPT but got an error message saying to “try again later” because demand for the tool is “highly popular.”
It’s unclear how many users were affected by Tuesday’s outage, but the AI tool is estimated to have more than 180 million average monthly users.
ChatGPT’s parent company, OpenAI, has been embroiled in a number of controversies since co-founder Sam Altman was fired in November 2023 and rehired a week later.
Helen Tonner, a former OpenAI director, said on the TED AI show last month that one of the reasons Altman was fired was because he had “contained information” and misrepresented what was going on inside the company.

More recently, actress Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against Altman and OpenAI for using her voice and likeness without permission in its latest bot, saying she was “shocked, angered and in disbelief” that the voice was “eeriely similar” to her own.
