Amazon The US technology giant’s cloud computing division, Web Services, Launching infrastructure regions in Taiwan The company said on Wednesday it will launch its cloud services by early 2025 to meet “high demand for cloud services” in the Asia-Pacific region.
Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of infrastructure services at AWS, said in a statement that the new AWS region in Taiwan will enable businesses to take advantage of the cloud and “build on AWS technologies across compute, storage, databases, analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.”
An AWS Region is a physical location where data centers are clustered.
The company said the new region will consist of three availability zones at launch, adding to AWS’ existing 105 availability zones across 33 geographic regions around the world. An availability zone is a geographically isolated location with one or more data centers with independent power, cooling, and physical security.
AWS said this will give developers, startups, enterprises, non-profit organizations, and institutions in education, entertainment and financial services “more options to run applications and deliver services to end users from data centers in Taiwan, and ensure that customers who want to keep their content in Taiwan can do so.”
The cloud services provider plans to inject billions of dollars into Taiwan over the next 15 years, according to the statement.
This latest development comes one month after AWS announced it would invest an additional $9 billion over the next five years to expand its cloud infrastructure and services in Singapore.

Google announced last month that it would invest $2 billion in Malaysia to build its first data center and cloud region.
Microsoft has announced AI and cloud-related investments in several Southeast Asian countries. MalaysiaThailand and Indonesia, and is strengthening its focus in this region.
AWS was the leader in the cloud infrastructure services market in the first quarter of this year, capturing 31% of the market share. Synergy Research GroupFollowing AWS, Microsoft Azure came in second.
