A north London landlord has been fined £13,500 for failing to address damp and mould problems in four of the eight flats he owns.
He was served with a series of improvement notices under the Housing Act 2004 but failed to act, leading the city council to take severe enforcement action.
Hubert Malcolm, Haringey Council’s deputy director for stronger and safer communities, said: “This incident highlights the importance of maintaining a safe living environment for all our residents.”
“Our fantastic enforcement team works tirelessly to ensure Haringey landlords meet their legal obligations.
“We will continue to take firm action against those who fail to meet their responsibilities and enforce the law to protect the rights and wellbeing of our tenants.”
The council said the owners were given every opportunity to comply within a reasonable timeframe.
They had been warned multiple times, despite the danger the devastation posed to residents.
People can report unauthorised or uncomplained properties in the area via Haringey Council’s website.
