Joe Biden’s advisers say he should spend more time attacking Donald Trump during the debates, rather than focusing on his own success in the White House. CNN Report.
Several senior Democratic Party officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told CNN they have been urging the Biden team to take an aggressive approach in Thursday’s debate. They have advised Biden to focus on criticizing Trump’s economic policies and his cozy ties to American companies, four sources close to the president told the outlet.
The Biden campaign did not immediately respond to BI’s request for comment.
Sources told CNN that Biden shouldn’t talk too much about what he’s accomplished while in office because voters don’t care that much.
“He wants credit, and that’s not working,” one senior Democratic source told CNN. “He should stop.”
Ron Klain, Biden’s former chief of staff and longtime aide, also said the president is spending too much time discussing infrastructure improvements.
“I think the president talks too much about bridges,” Klain said in April. “I think it’s kind of a waste of money.”
Klain added that bridges alone won’t be enough, and Biden needs to focus on issues people really care about, like the cost of groceries.
The survey found that more than 80% of Americans cited the economy and inflation as the two top issues that will determine how they will vote in November. ABC News/Ipsos Poll The poll was released in May, and on these issues, more Americans trust Trump than Biden: On the economy, 46% trust Trump, compared to 32% trust Biden, and on inflation, 44% trust Trump, compared to 30% trust Biden, according to the poll.
Biden’s campaign has stepped up its attacks on Trump since he was convicted of a felony last month. Last week, the president’s campaign unveiled a $50 million advertising offensive that includes TV spots scathingly criticizing Trump’s characterization as a “criminal.”
