As AI technology continues to grow, some companies are creatively leveraging its capabilities.
Wednesday, NBC Announced The company will use AI technology to recreate the voice of incomparable sports announcer Al Michaels as he broadcasts, “Get your daily Olympic recap on Peacock.”

The 2024 Summer Olympics are scheduled to open in Paris, France on July 27 and end on August 11. Broadcast on NBC.
The new program will allow audience members to curate a playlist containing their most favorite Summer Olympics recaps, narrated by an AI version of Michaels’ voice.

“When I was approached about this I was skeptical, but of course I was interested,” Michaels said. Company Release“Then I saw a demo that detailed what they were thinking, and I said, ‘I’m in.'”
CNN has confirmed that Michaels will be paid for his involvement.
NBC estimates that with 5,000 hours of programming expected to be broadcast during the Olympics, there could be more than 7 million abridged versions.
Michaels has established himself as a sports broadcasting legend, having covered nine Olympic Games during his career for both NBC and ABC Sports.
He is also known for one of the most iconic play-calling broadcasts in sports, when the U.S. hockey team defeated the Soviet Union at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. he cried: “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!”
Michaels’ willingness to collaborate with AI marks a departure from other celebrities who have spoken out against the technology’s ability to mimic a person’s voice or likeness.

Last month, Scarlett Johansson threatened legal action against OpenAI for using a voice that was “eerie similar” to hers for a new chatbot, after she had already rejected the company’s request to use her voice.
