Peter Thiel, once one of Donald Trump’s top tech donors, said Thursday that although he is not funding Trump’s campaign this time around as the Republican nominee, he will still vote for Trump over President Joe Biden.
“If I’m held up at gunpoint, I’m going to vote for Trump,” Thiel said in an onstage interview at the Aspen Ideas Festival, “and I’m not going to donate any money to his super PAC.”
In 2016, Thiel donated $1.25 million to the Trump campaign, at a time when most tech money was going to his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton. Facebook And co-founder PalantirHe also spoke at that year’s Republican National Convention and, after the election, helped arrange meetings between Trump and top executives from major tech companies, including Amazon, Apple, Google and Tesla.
However, Thiel later expressed dislike for Trump, I said last year Trump has vowed not to give money to any politicians in the 2024 presidential elections, and spent $32 million on Republican candidates in the 2022 midterm elections, with mixed results.
In Ohio, Republican J.D. Vance, a Trump appointee, held a Republican seat against Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan, but in Arizona, Republican Blake Masters failed in his bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly.
