Former President Donald Trump made his first public appearance since he was shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
He arrived on the first day of the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee wearing a giant rectangular bandage that nearly covered his entire ear.
As Trump entered the venue, the crowd applauded and Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” played.
In a photo taken Saturday by Associated Press reporter Evan Vucci, Trump could be seen waving to a crowd of conservatives in Milwaukee and pumping his fist.
After shots rang out at the Pennsylvania rally, Trump was seen ducking for cover, then stood up with blood on his face and raised his fist in a show of defiance to the Butler rally attendees.
Trump previously said he was glad no one lost their lives over the viral photo.
“A lot of people are saying this is the most iconic photo they’ve ever seen,” Trump told the New York Post on Sunday. “They’re right, and I’m not dead. Usually, you have to die to get an iconic photo.”
The 20-year-old shooter has been identified and the investigation into the assassination attempt continues.
Trump’s first public appearance at the Republican National Convention came after he selected Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate.
Vance, 39, is the author of the best-selling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy” and a former critic of Trump, according to leaked text messages from 2016. He once told his college roommate, He feared Trump could become “the American Hitler.”
but Vance has made it clear that he intends to support Trump as vice president.
“As your vice president, JD will continue to fight for our Constitution, stand with our troops, and do everything in our power to Make America Great Again,” Trump said in announcing his nomination. Monday Truth Society.
