If you’re a product manager looking to get a job at Meta, you’re in luck: the company has published an in-depth guide on what to expect during an interview and how to succeed.
According to the guide, the first round of interviews is an initial screening to assess the candidate’s product acumen and analytical thinking. If the candidate advances to the next round, they are given a “full-loop” interview that considers their leadership abilities and ambition.
Both types of interviews “focus on product knowledge, creativity, problem-solving skills and cognitive ability,” the guide states.
“Questions might center around what product you think is a great product, why it’s a great product, and what you would do if you were the PM or CEO of that company,” the guide states. “Other questions that might come up in this interview include looking at existing consumer products within the Meta ecosystem, like Facebook Groups or Instagram Small Businesses, and thinking about how you would evolve them.”
Aakash Gupta, a product leader who writes a newsletter about product growth, said: share A copy of Meta’s guide on LinkedIn.
“Be creative. The best candidates will come up with unique solutions that others don’t mention,” Gupta said on LinkedIn. “They should be able to understand every nook and cranny of a feature in 45 minutes, even if it’s just a sketch.”
The six-page guide includes information on expected questions during the interview process and background information that companies should know as applicants.
“Meta and Google interview most of their PMs because there are so few qualified candidates. To improve that process, they are opening up everything and trying to make the process as accurate and meritocratic as possible,” Gupta told Business Insider.
Jen Bouchard, former global talent head at Meta, previously told BI that the biggest mistake candidates make is not asking enough questions.
Interviewees “should be interested in learning about the role, the company, the culture and even the team they might be joining,” Bouchard said.
