Nintendo for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of WisdomThis isn’t Link, it’s the top-down Switch entry. The six-minute video focuses on “traversing Hyrule,” so it’s full of interesting tidbits about the kingdom and, more importantly, the overworld map.
This appears to be a brand new map, as many expected the game to change the map from what it was before. The Legend of Zelda: Gods of the Tri-Force 2Apparently that’s not the case, although some landmarks are in the same places – for example, the castle is in the center and the mountain is at the top.
Other than that, the game includes all the different cultures and towns from the 3D Zelda games. You can meet the Gorons and Zora, and even enter the all-female Gerudo town. This is also the first top-down Zelda game where you can travel by horse. There are several horses featured in the trailer, but none of them look exactly like the world-famous Epona. Princess Zelda’s white stallion is Breath of the Wild Anyway, they are all very cute.
The trailer also teases some deliciously unusual additions (we all love it when Nintendo does something unusual), including smoothie shops dotted throughout Hyrule and the candy-obsessed Deku Scrubs.
Finally, Zelda has a new feature called “Bind,” which forces objects or creatures in the game world to follow the player, presumably for the purpose of solving puzzles.
All of this is good news: this doesn’t look like the kind of game that’s going to be tossed aside when the console reaches the end of its lifespan; it’s adorable and original. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom It will be released on September 26th.
