Joe Rogan calls Robert Kennedy Jr. the “only” “meaningful” presidential candidate There was none Recommended.
During his podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience” on Thursday, Rogan sounded like he was endorsing independent presidential candidates who have a low chance of winning. He called Kennedy Jr. a “legitimate” man and described himself as a “fan.”
While discussing the virtual debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris with guest Bob Zimran, Rogan said politicians “gaslight you, manipulate you, push narratives,” adding, “The only person who hasn’t done that is Robert F. Kennedy Jr.”
Kennedy Jr. welcomed Rogan’s praise in a post on X, writing, “As a ‘legitimate’ guy, I want to thank @JoeRogan for always putting content first.”
But by Friday, facing outrage from MAGA supporters and a direct attack from Donald Trump himself, Rogan backed away from the idea.
“Just to be clear, this is not an endorsement,” Rogan said in a post on X that featured a video praising Kennedy Jr. “I’m just saying that I like Kennedy Jr. as a person and really appreciate the way he debates things civilly and intelligently. I think we need more of those in the world.”
Logan added, “When Trump raised his fist and yelled ‘Fight!’ after he was shot, I thought that was one of the most American things in history. I’m not one to get political information.”
But his post came too late to appease President Trump and his allies, who continued to attack the podcaster online.
“It’ll be interesting to see how loudly Joe Rogan gets booed the next time he steps into the UFC ring??? MAGA2024,” Trump said in a Truth Social post, shortly after Rogan publicly clarified his support for Kennedy.
In response to Rogan’s post, Trump supporters continued to insult his intelligence and credibility. Rogan suggested the only way he could redeem himself was to invite Trump for an interview on his wildly popular podcast.
“It seems you’ve realized that most of your listeners are Trump supporters,” one user wrote in response to Rogan walking back his comments about Kennedy Jr. “Maybe you should support them as much as they support you.”
Logan and Trump Share Demographics
Appearing on Rex Friedman’s podcast in 2022, Rogan said Trump had repeatedly declined his requests to appear on the show, suggesting he was “not supporting Trump in any way,” adding that he was “not going to help him.”
According to a YouGov poll, 81% of Rogan’s audience is male and more than 56% is under 35 – key demographics for Trump in the upcoming election. Rogan has sometimes been seen as a conservative because of his controversial comments on COVID-19 and his support for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, but he has never publicly endorsed a candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
Republican political consultant Mike Madrid told The New York Times that Logan’s support for Kennedy Jr. “came directly from Trump supporters.” While Kennedy Jr. has welcomed his campaign as a “disruptor” to both Biden and Trump, political consultant James Carville predicts his candidacy will hurt Trump’s campaign more than the Democratic candidates.
There were brief reports in July that Kennedy Jr. might drop out of the race and support Trump, but a potential deal between the two that would have given Kennedy Jr. a cabinet post in exchange for his support fell through.
In recent days, other conservative figures have also walked back their criticism of the former president following attacks from Trump’s allies.
Kyle Rittenhouse, who became popular among conservatives after being acquitted of killing two men during the 2021 riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, said last week that President Trump has “bad advisors and a bad Second Amendment,” the BBC reported.
“If you can’t fully compromise on the Second Amendment, then I’m not voting for you,” Rittenhouse said on social platform X (formerly Twitter), according to the BBC, adding: “I stand by my decision and I won’t be retracting it.”
The BBC reported that within 12 hours of receiving a barrage of violent attacks from Trump supporters, Rittenhouse reversed course, writing in another post that he had “had a series of constructive discussions with members of the Trump campaign and I am confident he will be the strong ally gun owners need to protect their Second Amendment rights.”
Representatives for Kennedy, Trump and Logan did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.
