Work has begun to repurpose more than 10 acres of disused space in Upton, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, and build more than 100 new homes on abandoned land.
Construction has begun by housebuilder Keepmoat, and the development will provide 143 new eco-friendly mixed-use homes in partnership with the local housing association.
The land is currently in a state of disrepair and has previously been subject to anti-social behaviour and illegal dumping.
Chris Clingo, regional managing director at Keepmoat Yorkshire West, said: “Keepmoat is pleased to have been able to regenerate this derelict site and transform an area that was rife with anti-social behaviour and illegal dumping into a thriving community.”
“This new development will bring much-needed high-quality new homes and significant investment to the city.”
“We look forward to working with the local housing association to deliver affordable land in Upton as we continue our commitment to providing new homes for the people of Pontefract and the surrounding areas and transforming the site into an attractive, vibrant community that can be enjoyed for years to come.”
The development will form part of wider redevelopment plans for Upton and will provide sustainable housing to the area with solar panels, EV chargers and bird and bat nesting boxes.
The homebuilders said the homes also feature improved building materials and renewable technologies (PV), helping homeowners reduce their energy usage.
