More recently, Jeff Waltz, the conservative brother of vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz, has been gaining attention on the right.
It began last week when right-wing activist Laura Loomer called attention to a Facebook post by Waltz from March 30, 2023, the day former President Donald Trump was indicted by the Manhattan district attorney.
“We have become a Third World banana republic,” Jeff Waltz wrote that day.
He expanded on those views on Friday, posting on Facebook that he was “100% opposed” to his brother’s ideology and was considering “long and hard” whether to support Trump.
“The story I can tell,” Jeff Waltz wrote, “is not the type of person I want making decisions about my future.”
This has sparked speculation on the right that Walz’s brother is prepared to reveal damaging information about the Minnesota governor.
Republicans have been scrutinizing Walz since Vice President Kamala Harris picked him as her running mate, particularly over allegations about the Minnesota governor’s military service and the fertility treatments his family underwent.
“Great guy!” Trump Written Posted on Truth Social following the New York Post report on Jeff Waltz.
but, Interview with NewsNation On Wednesday, Walz said he was not campaigning for or against his brother, saying “it is not my intention to influence the public” with his comments, suggesting he would not continue to speak publicly about his brother.
And he said the “stories” Waltz alluded to were not what some thought they were. For example, Waltz said his brother would sometimes “throw up” on him while driving because he got carsick.
“Nobody wanted to sit with him because he got carsick and he would always throw up on us, that’s what it was,” Jeff Waltz said. “There’s nothing hidden other than that. People are assuming something else. There are other stories like that, but I think that’s probably the gist of it.”
Jeff Waltz added that he hasn’t spoken to his brother since 2016, except for a brief conversation mediated by their mother last month. He also said he found out about his brother’s vice presidential nomination on the radio.
“It was unfortunate to find out on the radio that he’d been selected as the vice presidential nominee,” Jeff Waltz told NewsNation. “I thought they would have at least given us advance notice for a while and had some sort of security in place, because it’s a big deal.”
