AI is already being used in game development, but it could soon be used even more in role-playing games played by millions, Hasbro’s CEO says.
in Goldman Sachs event on ThursdayHasbro CEO Chris Cox said the company is using AI internally for game development, “primarily machine learning-based AI or proprietary AI, not the ChatGPT approach.” In the future, Hasbro plans to use AI as a knowledge and development assistant and incorporate the technology into its games.
But development is only one piece of the larger AI puzzle, and Cox says he’s even more excited about how the technology will impact everyday gameplay for Hasbro’s customers.

“If you look at the typical D&D player — I play with probably 30 or 40 people regularly,” Cox says — “there’s not a single one of them who doesn’t use AI in some way for their campaign development, their character development, their story ideas. That’s a clear signal that we need to embrace AI.”
Cox gave the example of AI helping with storytelling and presentation for D&D players, and said that use cases like this could be applied to other brands within the company. portfolio These include Transformers, Star Wars, Marvel and more. 50 million Dungeons & Dragons is played all over the world.
In an interview with Entrepreneur in July, Cox said one of the most exciting projects he’s working on is revamping the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons, and he also spoke broadly about how Hasbro balances tradition and innovation as a company that’s been around for over 100 years.

“History doesn’t repeat itself, but it does, so Hasbro has been faced with major innovations in technology and major changes in entertainment time and time again,” he said at the time. “Probably the biggest lesson we’ve learned from that is to embrace change and not resist it. Cox also emphasized the importance of safe and responsible AI development at Thursday’s event, saying he wants to ensure creators are paid for their work and that AI-generated content is labeled.
