Dave Bautista, 55, credits his 75-pound weight loss to “hard training” and restricting his calorie intake.
The actor and former WWE star said:Chris Van Vliet’s insightsThe podcast, “,” was released on Tuesday.
Bautista revealed that he gained “uncomfortably weight” at about 315 pounds for his role in the 2023 thriller “Knock at the Cabin.”
“When I was younger, I had a lot of muscle. I had to build muscle between movies,” he says. “I had very little time to wear suede. I built my muscles on French fries and pancakes.”
When filming wrapped, Bautista said it took him “forever” to lose the “uncomfortable weight” he was carrying. In July, the actor said Brazilian Jiu Jitsu helped him lose about 50 pounds.
As he lost the weight, he noticed how much better he felt and how much better he looked on camera alongside the other actors.
Even though Bautista now stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 240 pounds, he acknowledges that some people worry about his weight loss. “People see me gain weight over the years and assume I’m anorexic.”
“It’s weird, people say to me, ‘Oh, how skinny you are’ and I’ve even had people online express concern for my health,” Bautista continued.
That being said, the actor says he still plans to lose a few pounds.
“To stay in this shape, I’m basically killing myself, which means I’m training hard. Not only am I training hard, but I’m also severely restricting my calories,” Bautista said, adding that he only eats about 2,500 calories per day.
According to Calorie Calculator According to the Mayo Clinic website, someone of his height, weight and age should consume at least 2,600 calories a day, even if they don’t lead an active lifestyle.
Bautista said he only has a small window of time in the day to eat.
“I haven’t eaten anything yet. It’s almost 1 o’clock and I usually don’t eat anything until about three or four hours before I go to bed,” he said in an interview.
He added that he’s “not starving” but “just not eating much.”
Weight loss happens when you’re in a calorie deficit (burning more calories than you consume), but counting calories isn’t for everyone.
Instead, it may be more useful to track the portions of food you eat.
