After a major leak, Financial and Strategic Data Disney decided to ramp up its use of Microsoft Teams over Slack this summer.
Anne Internal Memo Disney plans to stop using Slack company-wide, according to documents obtained by Business Insider on Thursday, with most Disney employees expected to transition off the app by the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2025 and exit by the end of fiscal 2026. Disney’s decision to move away from Slacking comes after more than a terabyte of sensitive company data was leaked this summer. The Wall Street JournalA hacking group called NullBulge has released more than 44 million Slack messages, 18,800 spreadsheets, and 13,000 PDFs related to Disney’s strategy, finances, and operations.

NullBulge claims that with the help of Disney insiders, it was able to obtain all messages and files from nearly 10,000 of Disney’s Slack channels, and says its goal is to protect artists’ rights and promote fair compensation.

To protect yourself from the Disney data breach, keep sensitive information out of Slack, especially secrets like account credentials. Amatley also recommends keeping an eye out for unusual insider activity or behavior.
Disney isn’t the first company to have internal Slack messages leaked. An incident occurred at Uber September 2022 and Twitter, now X, The incident began in July 2020, when hackers first compromised a Slack account and then breached the company’s servers.
