Her renowned 4Ps Model and The Magic BLEND are just two of the frameworks that have become synonymous with change for  individuals as well as business future-proofing leaders for business success. Toni’s leadership is not only about driving profit but also about fostering Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) while empowering leaders to create positive, lasting and sustained change.

Toni McLelland’s Journey to Leadership

Toni McLelland’s professional journey is nothing short of remarkable. Her early roles within central government, notably the Ministry of Justice, along with her Chief Executive  and Principal roles in social care and specialist education, laid the foundation for her current role as a trusted mentor and consultant. Working across these sectors exposed her to the complexities of leadership in various environments, from crisis management in government to strategic change in social care.

It is through this diverse experience that Toni discovered the importance of compassion in leadership. Today, she mentors C-suite and Board Members, helping them navigate professional and organisational growth, particularly in times of challenge and change. Her clients not only appreciate her strategic insight but also the compassionate and authentic way in which she engages with them. This combination of strategy and compassion is what sets Toni apart.

The Critical Friend Approach: What It Means

Toni’s role as a Critical Friend is at the heart of her mentoring style. But what exactly does this term mean? In simple terms, a Critical Friend offers honest feedback while maintaining a supportive, compassionate stance. Toni has perfected this balance, helping business leaders see the truth of their situations without judgment, and guiding them through solutions in a way that empowers rather than discourages.

In practice, the Critical Friend approach involves deep listening, understanding unique challenges, and offering insights that allow leaders to reflect and grow. Leaders working with Toni are often going through periods of crisis, significant change, or uncertainty, and it’s here that her compassionate approach becomes crucial. By providing honest but empathetic feedback, she helps leaders develop the resilience and foresight necessary to navigate complexity successfully.

Empowering Leaders with the 4Ps Model

A core part of Toni’s mentoring framework is her 4Ps Model, a simple yet powerful framework for developing leadership in business. The 4Ps represent:

  • Purpose: Ensuring that leaders and businesses operate with a clear purpose, aligned with broader social and organisational goals. This forges the link with  organisational vision, mission and values.
  • People: Understanding and managing people effectively, recognising that emotional intelligence and human connections are key to business success. Social Impact, CSR accessibility plus Diversity and Inclusion are all key elements here.
  • Planet: What is your organisation doing to uphold responsibility around sustainable development? Taking proactive action for sustainability, the planet and environment will increase futureproofing.
  • Profit: (or Performance depending on how you measure success) ensuring success is measured no matter the structure of the organisation, creating outputs outcomes and lasting impact here is key. Do your business efforts equate to profit if not its time to review and convert.

Toni’s 4Ps Model helps leaders balance these elements, creating organisations that are not only profitable but also people-centred and purpose-driven. This holistic approach empowers leaders to bring out the best in their teams while staying focused on long-term success.

The Role of DEIB in Toni’s Leadership Framework

For Toni, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) are not just buzzwords but essential components of effective business leadership. Her work is deeply rooted in fostering environments where all individuals feel seen, valued, and supported. Compassion is at the heart of Toni’s DEIB initiatives. She believes that compassionate leadership is key to creating workplaces that are not only inclusive but also innovative and resilient.

Toni’s Compassionate Organisation and Leadership Framework places DEIB at the centre of business strategy, ensuring that leaders cultivate a sense of belonging within their organisations. It ensures the key agendas of People and Sustainability are at the forefront and the first steps of awareness to becoming  B Corp. By embedding DEIB principles into leadership, Toni empowers businesses to thrive in a way that benefits both people and profit.

The Magic BLEND: Leading Through Crisis and Change

In an increasingly volatile world, businesses face a constant need to adapt and innovate. The Magic BLEND Model offers a compassionate, structured approach to dealing with such changes.

She is deeply passionate about supporting social entrepreneurs and start-up founders, particularly those in the early stages of their journeys. Her belief in giving back is reflected in her work with young and emerging leaders, where she provides the tools and knowledge to help them navigate the complexities of starting a socially responsible business.
