Suela Braverman has announced that all police officers in the country will be checked against the National Police Database in an effort to root out anyone who “got through the net” following the David Carrick scandal.

In a statement, the Secretary of the Interior said Carrick’s “heartbreaking crime” was a “stain on the police force” and that he “should not have been allowed to remain a police officer for so long.”

Ms Braverman said she has asked all police departments to match officers and staff against national databases to identify missing persons.

She also urged the police academy to strengthen its police review code of practice to make the rules stricter and clearer.

“We are taking immediate steps to ensure that not only are predatory individuals eradicated from the military, but scrutiny and standards are strengthened to prevent them from joining the police force in the first place,” she said. I got

Martin Hewitt, chairman of the National Police Commissioners’ Council (NPCC), said the constables would “root out abusers and those who violate our standards from policing”.

“We ask all police to further check officers and personnel against the national police database,” he said. This will help us identify those who slip through the net before the screening criteria become stricter, and weed out those who are unfit to serve.

Hewitt said the NPCC is “examining how best to accomplish this across policing,” with more information on the scheme expected later this week.

Sources close to the reported plan Me 45 police across the UK use different software to record criminal cases in separate databases. In other words, information is rarely cross-checked.

The new screening plan is expected to mean that police officer details will be checked against all police databases, not just police, as part of the screening process.

Braverman faced criticism from Tory MPs yesterday after he said it was the responsibility of the Metropolitan Police to tighten police scrutiny procedures.

Braverman’s predecessor, Home Secretary Priti Patel, urged her to replace current screening guidance with statutory legislation requiring police to conduct proper background checks on recruits and existing staff.

London’s Metropolitan Police have failed to dismiss Carrick, an armed officer at the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, despite having been brought to the attention of police nine times in a decade, it was revealed on Monday.

He admitted earlier this week that he was one of Britain’s worst sex offenders, having committed more than 80 sex crimes, including 48 rapes, and a range of other charges, including wrongful imprisonment and coercive control. Did.

Carrick, who had just been formally dismissed from the Metropolitan Police yesterday morning, placed some of the women he attacked in a cupboard “smaller than a dog crate” under the stairs of his Hertfordshire home. I was trapped without food for hours.

He also flogged one woman with a belt, urinated on some of his victims, told them when he could eat and sleep, and forced them to clean their houses naked.

After it was revealed that Carrick worked in the same police unit as Wayne Cousins, who killed Ms Everard, the revelations threw a bewildered London Metropolitan Police into a new crisis.

Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley says he’s sick of revelations that police missed at least nine opportunities to stop Carrick because he promised to overhaul the police force to get rid of the criminals. rice field.

In the wake of the Carrick case, more than 1,600 cases of suspected sexual crimes or domestic violence involving Metropolitan Police officers and staff have been investigated over the past decade.

Most of the 1,071 officers and staff who have faced charges ranging from altercations to serious sex crimes will remain on duty and will be unrestricted while investigations are conducted, according to police. Over 800 of him under investigation are police officers.
