What is ChatGPT?
OpenAI’s ChatGPT generates text-based answers to prompts. This is an example of Generative AI, a type of artificial intelligence technology that is currently trending in Silicon Valley.
Products like ChatGPT are built on generative AI software that can generate stunning images that look like real human paintings. It can also generate essays that read as if they were written by a real college student, as is the case with ChatGPT.
Investors are pouring billions into startups that specialize in generative AI. For example, Microsoft announced a new multi-billion dollar investment in OpenAI in his late January. Meanwhile, Korra Ventures, Kraft Ventures, Sequoia, Entrepreneur First and Lux Capital are the top venture capital firms investing in generative AI startups, according to deal tracking firm PitchBook.
Stability AI, another popular startup focused on generative AI, said in October: received $101 million in funding from Coatue, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and O’Shaughnessy Ventures. Stability AI has built an open source project called Stable Diffusion. OpenAI’s ChatGPT can pose data security risks
OpenAI’s buzz ChatGPT service knows a lot about the world after being trained on tons of online data. Big tech companies are concerned about the risks it poses to data security.
This reportedly includes Microsoft, which is providing OpenAI with cloud computing services to run ChatGPT.
In January, a Microsoft engineer said in an internal online discussion that Microsoft employees shouldn’t pass sensitive company information to ChatGPT. Insider who confirmed the warningOpenAI can use this information in the process of training future models, the engineers wrote. From there, it could theoretically be possible for someone to receive sensitive information while conversing with a version of his ChatGPT that relies on a more modern language model.

Ever since OpenAI, a hybrid AI research company, released ChatGPT in November, people seem to be getting tired of chat generation software.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on Twitter that within five days of ChatGPT’s debut — still in so-called beta or experimental — the software “has surpassed 1 million users!”
Whether it’s helping engineers organize research notes for lectures or generating software code on behalf of developers, the tool has many users. ChatGPT is so popular that some schools across the country have banned students from using the tool as their new “homework assistant.”
