WhatsApp introduced some new update To Status, a feature introduced in 2017 as a response to Snapchat and Instagram Stories. One important addition is a feature called Voice Status, which allows you to set a voice note up to 30 seconds long on status update. The company calls it a more personal way of providing updates, especially when talking is more comfortable than typing or making videos.
Another important update is a feature called Private Audience Selector that lets you choose who can see your status updates. You can choose your audience for each status update, providing more granular control and convenience than your current privacy settings.
For those who love emojis, WhatsApp is also introducing Status Reactions, providing “a quick and easy way to respond to status updates from friends and close contacts,” WhatsApp writes. Rather than using other means such as text, voice messages, or stickers, simply swipe up and tap one of the eight emojis to reply to the status.
The status profile ring, on the other hand, puts a ring around your profile when you share status updates, and it appears in your chat list, group participants list, and contact information. Finally, when you post a link in your status, you’ll now see a preview of the link, giving your contacts a better idea of what it’s about before they click it.
Some of the new features (status reactions, profile rings, link previews) have been announced before, but are highlighted as a group of status updates. WaBetaInfo Note. The new features are rolling out to users around the world and will be available to everyone “within the next few weeks.”
