Here are some questions to ask yourself.
- What kind of work would you like to do (Talent Acquisition, Software Development, etc.)?
- What soft or hard skills do you have (collaboration, SQL, proofreading, etc.)?
- What certifications or degrees do you have (if any)?
- What kind of work are you looking for (part time, freelance, hybrid, alternate schedule)?
- Want to travel for work?
- Are you willing to move (if so, where)?
- If my industry does not employ, do you have skills that can be applied to other areas?
2. Target specific companies
Once you have answered the questions above, use it to target your company. Don’t just visit job boards and search for all positions nationwide that have your desired title.
There may be too many listings to comb through and the company may not be willing to give you what you need. Better to create a list of companies and target their open roles much more effective.
For example, if you need remote work in a field such as healthcare, you might want to target companies such as: united health group again CVS Health.
By targeting companies, you can focus your job search and get a new role faster.
3. Leverage LinkedIn

- Complete your profile to achieve “All-Star” status and be found in more searches.
- Stay abreast of industry news and trends by following relevant hashtags.
- Be a pro. Remember, your employer can see all of your girlfriend’s LinkedIn activities.
4. Have a portfolio
A portfolio is a great way to set yourself apart from the competition in your job search. It also provides employers with proof of your skills and achievements.
