A group called Fight for Echo bought Sky Banner to help the ill-fated VR game.
was recently announced That popular VR e-sports game Echo VR It shut down on August 1, 2023 at 10am PST, much to the dismay of the VR community. First released on the Oculus Rift in 2017, the zero-gravity sports game Ready at Dawn has served as a staple of competitive VR experiences for the past six years.
The news hit so hard among players that one group fight for echodecided to buy an empty banner encouraging Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg not to shut down his beloved VR game. The message “ZUCK, DONT KILL VR ESPORTS FIGHTFORECHO.COM” circled over his 3 hours yesterday, March 1, 2023, over Menlo Park’s Meta headquarters. The group hosted a live stream that reached approximately 3,000 viewers.
Fight for Echo’s Duncan Carroll said in the official release: “The community believes that: Echo VR It’s not just esports, it’s part of gaming history. ”
“echo In an interview with VRScout, Carroll said: “It was the first popular VR game to really solve the problem of movement in VR, and when you put on the headset it feels like you’re stepping into another world with its own physics. VR is often talked about as “realistic”, but Echo VR just nailed it.
“When you are in such a space, your brain really believes it is real and assigns the importance of the real world as if it were a real physical place with real people. “So when Meta announced they were shutting down everything, it felt more like they were stealing my home than they were stealing the game. And so much more.” I know our players feel this way too, it’s unique to VR and we feel companies like Meta need to find a better way to move forward.”
