Amazon has paused construction of its second headquarters in Virginia, called HQ2, the company confirmed to CNBC.
John Schottler, head of real estate at Amazon, said: bloombergwhich first reported on it, said the company is pushing the PenPlace milestone, the second phase of its sprawling campus in Northern Virginia. The phase will be completed on schedule and will be put into use as planned.
PenPlace encompasses three 22-story office buildings, over 100,000 square feet of retail space and a 350-foot tall tower called “The Helix.”
As part of a careful search for a second headquarters that began in 2017, Amazon selected Arlington as the location for its second headquarters, in addition to the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens, New York. The company has announced that he will be discontinuing in 2019. The company plans to build a new headquarters in New York after facing opposition from local activists and city council leaders.
