Windows often makes managing multiple audio devices cumbersome. Over the years, Microsoft has tried to improve the experience in several ways. For example, in 2021, the company has simplified its Windows 10 methods. Despite these efforts, it often feels like the OS doesn’t make switching audio outputs and managing sound levels as easy as it should be. For example, I’d like to see Windows 11’s Quick Settings panel let me adjust audio levels per app.
Thankfully, Microsoft is finally ready to fix this little annoyance for Windows users. This week, the company announced its latest It happens to include a redesigned quick settings volume mixer. Updated interface elements let you not only switch between audio devices, but also enable spatial sound and adjust volume output on a per-app basis. Both of these things are not possible with the current design. Additionally, Microsoft added a dedicated shortcut to speed up access to features. Once you’ve accessed the Volume Mixer, open it by pressing the Windows, Ctrl, and V keys on your keyboard simultaneously.
“This change gives you more control and fewer clicks to tailor your audio experience to better manage your favorite apps,” Microsoft says of the redesigned interface. As the new volume mixer is reminiscent of the popular Mod. There’s no word yet on when Microsoft plans to roll out the latest Windows Insider features to regular users, but hopefully it won’t be long before this rolls out to the general public.
