You no longer need to try betas to stream Android apps on your Chromebook. Google is liberated Chrome OS M115 update brings Android app streaming to more people. If you have Phone Hub enabled, you can run Android apps directly from your mobile device instead of installing them on your computer. With this update, you’ll be able to reply to messages and check your lunch delivery without reaching for your handset.
The feature is still limited to a small number of Android 13 capable smartphones from Google and Xiaomi. Google requires Pixel 4a or later. On the other hand, Xiaomi fans need at least a 12T. Both the Chromebook and smartphone must be on the same WiFi network and physically nearby. Some networks may not support this feature, but Chrome OS instant tethering can be used to establish a link if needed.
As in beta, you don’t need to use App Streaming for games or other intensive Android apps. This is more for responding to notifications than being serious. Still, you have to install an app for that. However, Chromebooks have some of the phone integration features found in macOS and Windows that can help you stay focused while you work.
With the M115 upgrade, you can also sign PDF documents and save your signatures for later use. Google has also redesigned the keyboard-oriented Shortcuts app with a new interface and easy in-app search.
