OpenAI has lived up to its word.As promised, the company liberated ChatGPT app for Android. Like the iOS version, you can talk to the generative AI and get advice, answers, and other (hopefully) helpful responses. You can use OpenAI’s in-house speech recognition to make voice requests, sync chat history across devices, and export data, but mainly you lose the ability to use plugins.
ChatGPT Plus subscribers can also freely switch between standard (GPT-3.5) and GPT-4 language models. You need at least Android 6.0 to use the app, regardless of which tier you’re using.
This app could make ChatGPT more accessible, especially in countries where Android is dominant and PCs are less prevalent. The software has been available for iPhone users since his May and has since been updated to support iPads.
This is a developing story. Please check back for the latest information.
