Approximately 117 affordable homes are being built at the Lakeside development in Theale, Berkshire.
Housing provider Aburi is working with Ridgepointe Homes on the development, which will form part of a wider 281-home development that Ridgepointe is building.
It should be completed by 2027.
Fergus Cruikshank, head of land and planning at Aburi, said: “We are committed to building quality homes that strengthen our communities, and it is really encouraging to be able to offer so many homes at affordable prices.”
“Building over 100 affordable homes will make a huge difference, especially at a time when the cost of living is so high.
“Abri is committed to delivering at least 10,000 homes by 2030, and developments like this will help us achieve that goal and build vibrant, prosperous communities. It’s helpful.”
To support people on the waiting list for affordable housing in West Berkshire, homes will be built in a range of contract terms, including 34 social rent homes and 35 affordable rental homes. . A further 48 homes will be available for purchase through shared ownership.
In addition to housing, the development calls for revitalizing unused land by building on top of a former gravel pit to create a lakeside environment. A waterside walkway connects the community with Thiers Village’s communal green space, forested nature reserve and local amenities.
The homes will be built in a mix of different housing types, including one- and two-bedroom apartments, two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes.
