Melinda French Gates steps down as co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. co-founded More than 20 years ago.
In a statement posted to X at noon ET on Monday, Gates announced his resignation and said his last day on the job would be June 7.

“This is not a decision I have made lightly,” French Gates wrote.
Gates concluded her statement by adding that under the terms of her agreement with ex-husband Bill Gates, she would “receive an additional $12.5 billion” to pursue philanthropy.

In response, Bill Gates posted on X that he was “sad to see Melinda go.”

After the former couple divorced in 2021, the Gates Foundation 2 year backup plan In case the two of you find it difficult to work together. This contract meant that Melinda Gates could choose to resign after two years.
