Uber announced several new product updates aimed at helping customers save money on rides and meals Wednesday at the company’s annual Go-Get Showcase in New York City.
The product updates reflect Uber’s continued commitment to driving growth and demand across its mobility and delivery business segments. The new features could help the company attract more passengers and users to the app.
Key new products announced by the company include:
uber shuttle
Passengers looking for a more affordable way to get to the airport, work, or live events like sports games or concerts can reserve a seat on an Uber shuttle.
Uber partners with local shuttle service It picks up riders and takes them to their destination. Uber said its shuttle service employs commercially licensed drivers, and users can tip and rate drivers directly within the Uber app.
Shuttle seating ranges from 14 to 55. The user can reserve up to 5 seats up to 7 days in advance and will receive a QR code ticket. Passengers can track the shuttle’s location within his 25 minutes of departure time.
The company said the shuttle will cost “a fraction of the cost” of an UberX ride. Travel is not affected by surge prices.
Uber will begin rolling out the feature this summer at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium and select concert venues in Chicago, Pittsburgh and Charlotte, North Carolina. Uber said it will expand its service in the future.
uber caregiver
Starting this summer, users who rely on a caregiver for support with daily activities will be able to add a caregiver directly to their profile. This allows caregivers to book rides and order medical supplies and groceries on behalf of the person they care for.
This feature also enables three-way chat between driver, rider and caregiver.
Uber said it can apply users’ insurance benefits where applicable to minimize out-of-pocket costs. Uber Caregiver will initially support Medicaid recipients, customers age 65 and older enrolled in Medicare Advantage, and customers with commercial insurance through their employer.
Caregivers can sign up to be notified when other insurance companies are added.
Uber Eats at Costco
Uber said costco It will be available as an on-demand option within Uber Eats in select locations across the U.S. starting Wednesday.
Users can order items from Costco without being members, but Uber says members will receive a 15-20% discount compared to non-members.
Costco members can get 20% off Uber One, the company’s subscription membership, by entering their membership number into the Uber Eats app.
Schedule an UberX share
Uber announced Wednesday that it is introducing a new feature that will allow users to book rides in advance. The company says this feature saves users an average of about 25% compared to a regular UberX ride. Passengers can schedule their trips as early as 10 minutes in advance.
Regular UberX Share rides will initially begin in some of the cities with the highest return-to-office rates. This includes New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, and San Diego. Uber said it will open more locations in the future.
Uber One for students
Uber is offering its Uber One membership program at a discount to college students. This program normally costs $9.99 per month, but is available to students for $4.99 per month.
The company says students will also have access to free products and special deals, including daily discounts on orders at Taco Bell, Domino’s Pizza and Starbucks.
Uber One Student Plan launches in the US in May. It will roll out in Canada, New Zealand, Mexico and Australia in July, and will also roll out in Japan and France in September.
Uber Eats list
Uber is introducing a new feature to Uber Eats called Lists that will allow users to share a curated list of restaurants and haunts. The company shared examples such as “date night desserts” and “toddler-approved” meals.
