Spring means keynote season in the tech world, and 2024 means “time to show off the authenticity of AI.” Google and OpenAI have already revealed big new upgrades to Gemini and ChatGPT this month, and now it’s Microsoft Build. The tech giant’s annual developer conference will kick off with a keynote scheduled for Tuesday, May 21st at 12pm ET/9am PT, and you can watch the entire event live. New Microsoft Surface products available: Monday, May 20th
One day before the official Build keynote, Microsoft will host a more intimate event for journalists where it will unveil the company’s “AI vision across hardware and software.” The event will not be livestreamed, but Engadget will have complete coverage of the developments.
Rumors strongly suggest that there will be a new Surface PC for consumers. And unlike enterprise-focused models like the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 announced in March, these new models are likely to be powered by updated Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. Arm chips run cooler and have much better battery life than their Intel and AMD counterparts. However, it often reduces app compatibility and processing speed.
Microsoft Build Keynote: Tuesday, May 21st
It is thought that Microsoft may be following the template that its fellow tech giants have been demonstrating this season. That means getting the hardware announcements out of the way first and getting ready for the all-AI showcase at the developer conference. Apple and Google have done something similar in recent weeks, each announcing a new iPad a few weeks before his WWDC event in June and a new Pixel 8a smartphone in the days leading up to Google I/O. did.
What does Tuesday mean? Last year’s Build announcement gives you a sense of the general mood. Microsoft’s Copilot AI (possibly with better OpenAI-powered smarts) will likely become more integrated into Microsoft’s DNA, both at the device level (Windows) and into the company’s large cloud infrastructure.
