Forget Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer dancing Windows 95 Release PartyOn Sunday, some in the tech industry took notice of another strange performance.
The routine was performed onstage at the design and editing app company’s Canva Create conference in Los Angeles last week, and sees the singer, surrounded by six backup dancers, perform a hip-hop song-and-dance tribute to Canva.
Suddenly, another singer appears on stage, disguised as a fictitious chief information officer for one of the company’s clients.
“Our stakes are pretty high and we can’t afford to fail,” sings the CIO as he challenges the first singer on Canva’s capabilities while a jazz tune plays in the background, “You need more than cute little posts to share!”
“You can also manage automated license management, compliance, and privacy,” he said in response to another question later in the performance. Canva did not respond to Business Insider’s request for comment on the performance.
Video of the performance went viral on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend, with some users saying the performance stood out, even in an industry known for bizarre stunts at conferences.
Others pointed out the performance’s resemblance to “Hamilton.”, Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, this musical is famous for telling the life of Alexander Hamilton using oblique rhymes and rap battles.
