Starting in January, sections of Costco that were once open year-round may become seasonal events.
The New York Times Report Costco’s famous book section will no longer be a permanent fixture in stores across the US starting next year, and may only return during the holiday season from September to December.
Costco had yet to announce the change at press time, but four executives from major publishing companies revealed the news. Times on wednesday.

Sources said Costco is making the change because of the labor required to constantly stock tables with related literature, and the layout of this section takes longer than other sections because Costco employees have to manually restock the books.
The pace of the book cycle is also labor-intensive, requiring employees to return unsold books and replenish with new books every week.

The change could have a noticeable impact on book sales, as Costco orders books in bulk, by the tens or even hundreds of thousands.

Costco may soon stop selling book subscriptions across the U.S., but Hawaii and Alaska have already made the change for years.
