5 Colleges Helping Seniors Start New Careers

Live and learn and keep learning. Many do, even after their careers are over and they’re in their 50s, 60s, and beyond.

It could be to acquire new knowledge and skills to find a more rewarding job or career, or simply to learn new things and make new connections.

Whatever their motivation, more and more universities are creating programs specifically suited for these late learners. , and countless opportunities to interact with faculty.

Here we take a look at some of the more established programs within the United States.If this type of program isn’t right for you, some more options follow.

1. University of Connecticut

Encore!Connecticut helps businesses and public sector professionals transition to nonprofit organizations for full-time, part-time, or volunteer positions.

The program includes 40 hours of education on many aspects of nonprofit activity, including program management, fundraising strategies, and governance.

The fall program begins September 9, 2023 and tuition is $2,950. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and scholarships are also available. For more information and to apply, please visit: Encore! Connecticut website.

2. Stanford University

of Distinguished Careers Institute It aims to help older adults “renew purpose, build community, and recalibrate their health.”

DCI Fellows Participate 4 school districts “There are courses available in the humanities, business, environment and many other areas,”destination routeFriends choose.”

The application period for the 2024 DCI class will begin in September 2023. Applicants with careers in the public sector “including military, public education, the arts, or related fields” may be eligible for financial assistance.

3. Harvard University

For example, at Aquinas College, a liberal arts college in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Osher Lifelong Learning Instituteits mission is to “facilitate accessible lifelong learning, personal growth, and social connectivity for learners aged 50 and over.”

The academic year runs from September to June, and classes are usually one or two days long and cost $14 or $17 respectively. Paid membership levelScholarships are available.
