It’s the end of an era like Nintendo shutting down The Wii U and 3DS eShop is open today (March 27) at 5:00 PM (8:00 PM PST). After that, you won’t be able to purchase new games for those consoles, but you’ll be able to redownload titles you’ve already purchased for the time being.
The company first warned of the e-shop closing in February 2022 and banned users from adding funds to their accounts on August 29. Nintendo wrote at the time that the move was “part of the natural lifecycle of the product line, as consumer usage decreases over time.”
That may be true, but a treasure trove of over 1,000 digital games will be lost in shutdown. Dr. Luigi, Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challengeand pokemon picross, just to name a few. In total, 450 digital-only Wii U games, 600 digital-only 3DS games, and 530 Virtual Console games have disappeared. VGC report.
